Two of the Smallest and Most Affordable Vehicles
The Kia Soul and the Hyundai Venue are two of the smallest and most affordable new cars on the market today. While Kia and Hyundai are technically separate automotive companies, they are owned by the same company. As relatives, many Kia and Hyundai models sit atop the same platform, but they are outfitted and styled in unique ways. Such is the case with the Kia Soul and Hyundai Venue.
When comparing them side by side, the 2024 Soul stands out from the 2023 Hyundai Venue. You can see all the newest model year Soul has to offer at Kia of Cape Coral near Fort Myers and Lehigh Acres.
What’s Under the Hood
The 2024 Kia Soul features a fuel-efficient 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine that relies on a continuously variable automatic transmission to deliver 147 horsepower and 132 lb-ft of torque. It’s an ideal engine for cruising around town, thanks to standard front-wheel drive, diminutive size, and the EPA-estimated fuel rating of 27/33 MPG. Drivers who want even better fuel efficiency should choose the EX trim with its EPA-estimated 29/35 MPG rating.
The Venue is also a pleasant little town car. It has a 1.6-liter four-cylinder engine paired with a CVT. The smaller engine delivers only 121 horsepower and 113 lb-ft of torque, so it’s certainly not winning any races or getting to 70 MPH on the highway in a respectable time.
While the Soul delivers impressive gas mileage in most trims, the Venue gets an EPA-estimated fuel rating of 29/33 MPG in all trims. You’ll never have a problem finding a parking spot, and you’ll be hard-pressed to get a speeding ticket in both the Soul and the Venue.
Standard Safety Features from the Subcompact Cousins
Kia and Hyundai are known for their safety features, which are especially helpful in a subcompact SUV. The Soul LX comes standard with the DriveWise safety suite which includes Forward Collision Warning with Pedestrian and Cyclist Detection, Driver-Attention Warning, Forward Automatic Emergency Braking, Lane-Departure Warning, a Rear-Seat Alert, and Automatic High-Beam Headlights. The entry-level Venue is similarly equipped.
Shoppers can add Blind-Spot Monitoring, Rear Cross-Traffic Alert, and Lane-Change Assist by adding the Technology package to the Soul LX. For those same features in the Venue, drivers have to upgrade to the SEL trim level.
Innovative Interior Info and Entertainment Technology
The Kia Soul interior comes with an 8.0-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, Bluetooth, six speakers, and a digital gauge cluster. Moving up one trim level to the Soul S adds a 10.2-inch touchscreen with navigation and SiriusXM Satellite Radio. Additional tech features include wireless device charging, more USB ports, a push-button start, and remote start.
Kia also offers the GT-Line with a 10-speaker audio system, LED headlights, adaptive cruise control, and fog lights. The EX trim is the top trim, but it doesn’t include additional tech features, only styling upgrades, especially in the EX Designer package.
The Hyundai Venue interior technology includes an 8.0-inch touchscreen with wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, HD Radio, Bluetooth, and four speakers. The same screen size is standard through the SEL and Limited trims, but the SEL adds a six-speaker stereo, and the Limited trim includes navigation and SiriusXM Satellite Radio. No extra packages are available for the Venue.

Surprising Comfort and Spacious Cargo Areas
Since both models are subcompact, affordable SUVs, neither are available with leather upholstery. Both models come with durable cloth seats, but only the Kia Soul GT-Line and EX have synthetic leather seats. Those two trims come with heated front seats, as does the Venue Limited trim.
The Soul S and upper-level trims have dual-zone automatic climate control, and so do the Venue SEL and Limited trims. The Venue is only available with a black interior, while the Soul is available in several colors like black, two-tone gray, black and white, and umber.
